My name is Gary Evans. I am a newcomer to the Maine-Anjou breed, but not the beef industry. My background includes 29 years with a major agricultural company. The last 10 years I was responsible for the meat side of the business including National Beef, Supreme Feeders, Liberal, Kan., and I had a major role in bringing U.S. Premium Beef into the beef packing industry. I retired six years ago. About three years ago, my wife, Frances and I decided to fulfill a lifelong dream to be involved in the cattle business. After consulting with a number of beef industry participants, we chose Maine-Anjou as our breed of choice. Our research within the industry leads us to believe that composite cattle are the future of the beef industry with their ability to perform on the rail when it comes to weight and yield and their ability to gain fast and efficiently. Maine-Anjou cattle are the perfect fit to meet these requirements. We have since teamed up with DeRouchey Cattle Company, Mitchell, S.D., to purchase what we believe are some of the top heifers out of his herd in the last two years. Our first calf crop is on the ground and includes Ali, New Level, FJH Power Plus and Money Man bull and heifer calves. We are located down the road from the American Maine-Anjou headquarters in Platte City, Mo., so when you’re in the area, stop on by. We would welcome the opportunity to show you our cattle operation.
